Meet John

One of the first words uttered to me by a potential literary agent was this.

“You do know that you’re the wrong person to have written this book, don’t you?” Nonetheless, Vanessa Mormon (Sheba Media Group) sent me a contact that same day. Yes. I am a white male in my sixties and not the preferred woman of color author.

The Alabama Prophet was inspired by two people. Linda Daly, (Artistic Endeavors Publishing). Urged me to write a fiction book featuring something from the supernatural.

Weeks later, during lunch with my son, Jacob, and his friend and college teammate, Carlexa Fevry, the seed in which The Alabama Prophet sprouted was planted. Carlexa, nearing graduation from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, expressed her desire to achieve a career in diversity and inclusion in corporate America.

Chagrined that our nation, 165 years post-Civil War, remained divided over racial issues, I dreamed of an alternate reality in which racism was largely extinct by the 2030s. The Alabama Prophet was born.

John Henkels is the author of one previous book, Samuel’s Mission, A Story of Extravagant Love, (Artistic Endeavors Publishing). It took great family tragedy for John, a lifetime Civil Engineer, to discover his passion for writing. “Samuel’s Mission” delivered not only healing but brought forth the awareness of the extravagant love that has blessed his life. The father of three sons and, of over thirty-years, the adoring husband of Suzanne with her 1000-watt smile, character, intelligence and passion for fun.  After raising our family in the Cleveland, Ohio area, John and Suzanne now reside in South Carolina near Hilton Head Island.
